Rejoice
There are so many things we have to get done each day, and truth be told, some of them aren’t enjoyable. We have work to do, and honestly, some of us tend to complain about it being an overwhelming to-do list. A regular bible verse at our house is: “Do everything without complaining or arguing.” (Philippians 2:14) It really is just our human nature to vent. Probably because we long for heaven, where only the good from earth will remain. Nonetheless, we have to remember that God did actually create us for work. It is good for us. Accomplishments bring pleasure. Yes, the benefits of work, as well as the goodness in our relationships, food, cozy places, and beautiful views, bring satisfaction. There are a multitude of opportunities for thankfulness and delight. As clear as can be in the bible, God gives us a reminder when he tells us, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) If you know the Lord and are in good standing with Him, then live this out. If you have been saved and that deep inner human need for redemption has been fulfilled, then you have every reason, every single day to REJOICE!
Wait, how can I always rejoice? What about when my finances aren’t good, an unknown sickness, or an extremely difficult person arrives in my life? Of course, on those days, we wouldn’t need to rejoice or give thanks, right? Actually, God says that this would be the day, too. It’s all of our days. He is clear on this: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) We aren’t thankful for all circumstances, but we are to be thankful in them.
Finally, the best reason to always rejoice - our relationship with God. When difficult days arrive, and they absolutely will, then we pray to Him about them. Even in our hard circumstances, we give thanks. Trusting Him. What he has allowed will ultimately be for our growth. “We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) If you have a personal relationship with the King of the World, then you know and have experienced the presence of God with you. Do not forget his great faithfulness! Or that His ears are open to His people’s prayers. Let’s thank God for this day and for the goodness he brings into our lives. Again, I say REJOICE!
