Grace is Enough

This morning I woke up and heard, “grace is enough.” I love the voice of God, it comforts me. When we hear His voice spoken to our heart from the Holy Spirit, through reading the Bible or another way that God chooses we need to listen and obey it. A friend told me that when you get these from God you need to grab them with a pen in hand. So, here I lay in the early morning with a laptop in hand, sleepy but ready to hear the voice of Truth. You know how I know it’s His voice and not another? It matches the Bible, which is the Word of God. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Again, His grace is enough.

In earlier years I really lived in His precious grace. When I first met my Savior I knew His amazing grace so intimately. Grace is giving someone what they don’t deserve. He gave redemption, forgiveness, wisdom and understanding. All unearned gifts. That is exactly what receiving God into your life is like. It’s your spirit coming alive from knowing Him. From death to life, that is how sweet the grace he has lavished on us is. But what happens to us over time? What happens to the joy of grace?

If it’s as good as it is, then why would we suddenly find it not enough? It’s clear to me this morning. We stop relying on the Spirit and we try to take over in our own strength. We rely on our human physical strength. We start in the Spirit, but end up in the flesh. I guess it’s our nature to rely on ourselves. Yet, it doesn’t have to be this way because God’s power is readily available to us who believe. We couldn’t save ourselves and we also can’t sustain ourselves. We have to be honest and admit we need Him. He started our story and he is the only one who will finish it. “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6) The Bible tells us to be confident of this. Are you? How quickly I can forget that it all started as a gift from God that I didn’t earn. I’m not the author, God is. So why do I take over? Or more foolishly, why do I feel like the one who has to finish it?

This morning it’s clear, God’s grace is enough! I simply focus my eyes on Jesus, pray and read the bible, obey His voice and let amazing grace lead me home.
