Don’t Believe Lies

There are so many lies swirling around everyday. Some are obvious and we can quickly identify them. Not even a minute ago when I turned on the music an advertisement stated that you could lose three sizes instantly with salt and ice. That’s impossible. That’s an easily identifiable lie. But what about the type of lies that the Serpent in the garden of Eden told Eve? “The Serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God made.” (Genesis 3:1) He still works today to slither into our minds to bind and destroy us. He works subtly to plant the lies. For me, I had believed the lie that I’m not good enough all my life. I’ve been hard on myself through the years. The root was from the deep emotional wounds I received in my childhood. This ancient Serpent, Jesus called him our enemy and adversary, he utilized them to attack my identity and worth. Yet, God over the years has been working tenderly with me to reveal His truth and unclutter these lies.

Often God will use what people have experienced as their ministry. Could I be used by God to help? Broken family, dysfunction, pain, shame and the rest for helping others who are struggling through the same misfortune. This sounded good and right to me, and therefore I accepted my trauma for good. However, as soon as it was settled within me, I instantly heard your past isn’t bad enough…get ready for this… “You’re too good!” After an unbelievable amount of attacks and lies through all these years on being unworthy, now I’m being told I’m too good to help people who feel they aren’t good enough. What? This accuser, Satan is a liar and I’m definitely on to him and his lies.

Here is the truth, yes, I’m not good enough. The Serpent is right on that part, but he leaves out the rest. Yes, I was born a sinner and big surprise, I’ve sinned. I fall short of God’s perfect law. The pain others caused me and the pain I’ve caused myself created wounds and that is just awful. However, God is a restorer. He is a God of transformation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The truth is we are all made in His image and have worth. Enough so that God sent our redemption through Jesus. “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) He died before we were even His new creation or could be called Children of God. We are definitely worth something to God. As a child of God, our identity is in our Heavenly Father. We find our worth in who we are to Him, not the lies.

Through Christ I am enough and even considered a treasured possession and valuable. I have a purpose and I can definitely help others. You can too. That’s the truth.
